Long before my natural hair journey and even before I discovered weaves, I loved braids. During the late 90s and early 2000s I had what are affectionately known as the “Poetic Justice” braids from the hairstyle Janet Jackson wore throughout the movie “Poetic Justice” (1993). As a teen, my aunt usually did them for me. As an adult, I would go to professional hair braiding shops and fork over $100-$150 dollars per style depending on the type of hair I was using, thickness/thinness of the braid and length. I have been wanting to try the style again. I haven’t had braids in a few years, but I didn’t want to shell over a BENJAMIN for it! I am terrible at corn rowing but I never had an issue box braiding, I just had not attempted box braids with braiding hair.

All that changed after I found out to braid my own hair it would cost me $12.00!!! The price for 5 packs of braiding hair! If that’s not motivation enough then I don’t know what is.

21 hours later. Why you so long you ask? Between removing my kinky twists 1 by 1, detangling each section and then placing in 3 braids for every 1 kinky twist it took more time than normal.

When I finally finished, I had a head full of super long skinny box braids. I LOVE THEM!

You can style braids so many ways. One of my favorite ways I like to call ” The Greek Goddess “.

This style is so simple to achieve.

Step 1: Take a section of braids near your right temple and braid them together (make the braid as thick/thin as you like)

Step 2: Take a section of braids near your left temple and braid them together too

Step 3: Pin one braid to the opposite side with bobby pins

Step 4: Pin one braid to the other side with bobby pins

Step 5: Split the hanging braids over your shoulder or let them cascade down your back!
